Catapult Configuration Manager

Configuration Manager is a GUI application which provides users the ability to change certain configuration settings in ByteTools’ Catapult JTAG probes. Also it is used to run health check on Catapult Devices.

Getting Started

Device Scan

After launching the application, the tool scan for Catapult devices in the network. If the devices are in different subnet, ensure that the intermediate switch or router allows sending broadcast ethernet packets to different subnet. During the scan processing, all the devices in the network would be displayed in the main screen with IP address, Serial Number of each device.

Each device has its own instance identifier. The tool bar has three buttons which correspond to the pull-down menu options.

When the Catapult Ethernet Cable is connected in Direct Mode ( PC/Laptop connected to the Catapult Cable via crossover Ethernet cable), ensure that only one Ethernet interface is enabled in the PC/Laptop. Simultaneously enabling both Wired and Wireless interface can block the Catapult Discovery operation.

Configuring iptables in Linux OS

In certain Linux operating systems, the iptables could have been configured to reject any UDP packets other than the predefined one. This would make an impact on the Configuration Manager not to display the devices on the device scan screen. Changing the iptables setting can allow the Linux OS to display inventory information of the Catapult EJ cables in the network.

The following commands can be executed after consulting with the System/Network administrators.

  /sbin/iptables -I RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -p udp --dport 10000:10064 -j ACCEPT
  /etc/init.d/iptables save
  /etc/init.d/iptables stop
  /etc/init.d/iptables start

Changing IP Address Setting

  • IP Address setting can be changed by selecting the appropriate device ( ensure that the Serial Number of the Cable is correct) in the scan screen.
  • Double click the mouse button, or select “Connect” button in the main screen.
  • A new Catapult EJ Configuratoin Dialog Box would be popped-up
  • Click Modify and change the values.
  • Take care when doing so - you may render your device inoperable!

Restore Factory Defaults

Factory defaults can be restored via Configuration⇒Restore Factory Defaults menu.

If the restoration doesn't work, ensure that only one Ethernet interface is enabled in the PC/Laptop( incase Catault Cable is connected via Direct Mode) and re-issue the command by specifying the Serial number of the Ethernet Cable.

Enabling the debug mode can be a useful option to capture more debug information incase the factory defaults operation didn't work.

Debug Log

If the Configuration Manager doesn't work as expected, enable the debug option via the menu Settings=⇒Options=⇒Enable Log. This would enable the Configuration Manager to log all the background tasks via a debug log file, “bytecfgm.log”. ByteTools support team can investigate the issues with the help of this log file.

For example, if the “device scan” doesn't capture any Catapult Cables in the screen, the following steps will capture the appropriate information in the log file.

1. Launch the Configuration Manager.

2. Select Settings⇒Options menu

3. Check Enable Log check box

4. Click “OK” to close the Option dialog box

5. Execute the Scan operation ( without closing the Configuration Manager )

6. Close the Configuration Manager

7. bytecfgm.log file can be found where the Configuration Manager is installed.

Note: Incase the User Operating System is Windows Vista or Windows 7, the log file can be found in C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\ folder
